Oxnard Reads with myON

"Reading is a gatekeeper, and it’s a must.  Having books in the home is essential."

- Dr. Cesar Morales, Superintendent

myON is pleased to partner with Oxnard School District and to support their culture of reading, as we strive toward our shared vision of empowering all children to achieve excellence.

Read about how myON is working for Oxnard in "The Right Connections Include Parent in Training for a 1:1 Program" and about the district's "One Billion Word Summer Reading Challenge" (both published in Tech & Learning).  For more information, see "Removing Barriers to Equity through Digital Book Platform" in District Administration Magazine.

By the numbers

What began with the vision of Ramona Elementary School Principal Mary Arias Elisondo in the Fall of 2014 is growing into a districtwide community reading model. Between November 2014 and August 2017, Oxnard students have contributed to the following outstanding reading results!

About myON

myON is designed to help each youngster learn to read and love to read, opening the door to lifelong learning.  Each account provides unlimited access to a personalized literacy environment containing myON Classics and thousands of enhanced digital texts in English and Spanish from Capstone, with multi-media supports and literacy tools. Embedded metrics developed in partnership with MetaMetrics, creators of the Lexile® Framework for Reading, seamlessly monitor activity and growth.  View this brief video to see how myON works.

myON is always on

Students and families can access myON at home, in the library or other community settings, during the day, evenings, weekends and school breaks. Read online on any web-enabled device or offline using free mobile apps for Android, Chromebooks and iPads.

Learn more about offline reading with myON and download our Mobile App Tip Sheet in English and Spanish. To be sure your system is myON-ready, click here.

Quick tip

Students are encouraged to select books from the "Recommended" tab on their personal dashboards and to take regular Lexile(R) benchmark assessments whenever the purple envelope appears at the top of their screens. These two simple steps will keep them reading books in their "just right" range -- books that match their interests, are at their Lexile(R) level and appropriate for their grade level, to help them grow as readers.
