Personalized Assignments

Create personalized assignments with myON Projects. This tool enables educators to create lesson as simple as assigning one or more books, or they may incorporate additional tasks that run the gamut from a writing assignment, using graphic organizers, to completing a Lexile® assessment.

Create personalized assignments for students

The Projects tool represents yet another way myON supports a comprehensive approach to personalized literacy – enabling educators to create the mult-element lessons and view student work through every step of the assignment from a Project dashboard.

Educators can also access myON Community Projects, created and shared by other educators, that they adopt and use, or adapt to their needs.

Add booklists and tasks

Project tasks can be as simple as assigning one or more books or they may incorporate additional tasks that run the gamut from a writing assignment to a task using graphic organizers to completing a Lexile® assessment. Projects may include an objective, due date and instructions for students.

Educators see the edit view, shown here, when they are creating or customizing Projects, adding tasks and book lists to the assignments.

Twelve Graphic Organizers are available to help readers create a mental picture of the information in a text and to organize their thoughts before writing, during writing and after writing as part of a Projects checklist.

Students can add text directly into graphic organizers, like the Main Idea organizer shown here.

Assign to individual students or groups

Projects can be assigned to individual students, groups or whole classes. Students can access assigned Projects directly through their dashboards and/or the Projects tab from their landing pages and instantly see the status on each: not started, in progress or completed. Real-time metrics on student progress with assigned projects are also available to educators.

Educators are using the Projects tool in a variety of ways

  • To create a reading assignment for students that includes selected titles in the myON library
  • To set guidelines for students that allow them to select books or articles to support the assignment
  • To help students make connections by working with one of the 12 available Graphic Organizers available within myON
  • To provide instructions for students to highlight and take notes within the text, then complete a writing assignment
